This has to be the most useful & smart books about Rome that I've seen from anyone. And I've seen most of them. An author that cares about the REAL Rome, rather than all the commercial stuff that all the other books talk about. If you're like us and want to see it YOUR way (instead of everyone elses), this is the book for you.

Just the right amount of history with excellent concise summaries of the major figures. Excellent for the art and where to find it. Well organized between the maps and the numbered pages. Fun and often funny! I am using it for my first trip to Florence and I am finding it very helpful.
